Mohammad Omar Abdullah released a book (444 p.) published by CRC Press in 2013. His Introduction is as follows:

"Energy systems are integral parts of our own bodies and our society. Each day, every one of us changes energy from one form to another and uses it to do work for us, within us and around us! In order to live more comfortably, we build and improve numerous energy systems for our own good, from air-conditioning and power plants, to vehicle waste heat usage and zero-energy homes.

Applied Energy refers to any energy conversion when applied to energy systems (see Figure 1.1). The subject matter and the associated scope are therefore very vast — it refers primarily to our daily domestic and industrial energy usage and applications in various areas of energy conversion and conservation, energy resources, energy processes, energy storage, safety, and transport, environmental energy pollutants, and sustainable energy systems, as well as techno-economics, energy innovation, and applied energy issues around the globe.

In this book, Applied Energy: An Introduction, we shall endeavor to come up with an introduction to various applied energy studies, relating to six main areas of energy applications, namely:

1) Energy (power) industry,

2) Energy intensive industry and manufacturing,

3) Transportation applications,

4) Building industry applications,

5) Small and medium enterprise (SME) industry as well as

(6) residential and other general energy applications.

Focusing on energy conversion, and conservation in the energy industry, the author will also discuss energy applications in small-medium enterprises, solar energy, hydro and wind energy, biomass energy, hybrid energy, and energy sustainability issues.

In addition to illustrations, the author provides numerous worked examples, application projects, case studies, assignments and homework problems to empower our comprehension and confidence. By going through the materials presented in this introductory but somewhat comprehensive book on applied energy, you can determine which key ideas and useful knowledge are worth the effort during the last week of the term or semester."
