Matt Daily of Politico reports that there are three policy positions outlined so far. The future for the technology that powers about one-fifth of the U.S. has dimmed because of high costs to build reactors [created by over-regulation by Congress] and deadlock over how to deal with mounting radioactive waste. Environmental groups are now split on the use of nuclear power, which produces large amounts of electricity without the CO2 emitted by coal or natural gas plants, but has for decades been among the biggest targets of the environmental movement [aka anti-nuclear activists, who are ignorant of the facts or are under the influence of other industrial agendas, e.g. oil and gas companies, and/or wind and solar industries. But, at the core of these groups beliefs is an irrational fear of radiation (more). A review of the anti-nuclear agenda has been summarized with numerous examples of blatant misrepresentation of the facts by media and associated supporters (more).

[Post Script: With Trump and the "Republican" Party supporting nuclear power plants in the U.S., this confounds the issues, setting the Democrats against nuclear power if only becasue Trump supports it....But, on the other hand, one day soon, this may represent one "political" subject that both Left and Right agree (assuming the Right breaks away from the influence of the oil and gas interests and Left drifts away from their support of large windmill and solar farms].
