Welcome to the October 2018 edition of GeoServe. The Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ) has a long, proud history. As we celebrate our 150th year, reflecting on our progress and achievements, we are also looking forward and transforming, to ensure continued exploration and discovery success well into the future. From the time Richard Daintree and Christopher D’Oyly Hale Aplin were appointed as the State’s first geologists in 1868, Queensland geologists have been known for using innovative techniques to explore for resource deposits. Over 150 years, the discovery of mineral and energy resources has contributed to Queensland’s economic development by creating thousands of jobs and generating billions in resources.
As we look to the future, new resource discoveries are essential in ensuring Queensland’s ongoing economic prosperity and success. In our 150th year we find ourselves embarking on a significant transformation journey with a goal to build a data-driven exploration ecosystem for Queensland. With demand for data and information growing every year we are focussing on transforming the way geoscience information is collected and accessed, allowing industry to derive greater value and efficiency from data.
In the next edition of GeoServe we will provide a comprehensive overview on the Geoscience Data Modernisation Project and how it will transform how our geoscience data is managed. This is an exciting time for our industry and I am looking forward to working to deliver an outcome that benefits Queensland for the next 150 years. Stay connected with our Facebook and Twitter accounts to learn more about 150 years of GSQ.
