Russian editors report, roughly, that Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), together with colleagues from Norway and the UK, have established a comprehensive mathematical model of the movement of dissolved uranium in the upper "soil" layers. The dissolution of rocks uranium is concentrated in the form of minerals, forming deposits of basic raw materials for the nuclear industry of the Russian Federation. It is heavy metal is extremely toxic and radioactive in concentrated form, and therefore the results of the research will not only help in the search for uranium, but in the organization of safe water in regions where it is present the most.

“The results of our research allowed to identify the main factors affecting the migration of uranium in natural waters. These data are unique and will greatly simplify the search of deposits of rare elements. Our mathematical model – the first step to the description and control of formation of uranium deposits,” – said in an interview with “TASS” associate Professor of hydrogeology, engineering Geology and land management TPU Alexey Nikitenko.

Validation of simulation results was involved in an academic group under the leadership of Catherine Domovoi, Professor of TPU. The experts tested the mathematical model on a variety of real samples from Norway and Siberia, revealed the influence of pH, flow rate of underground water and salinity of soil on the formation of new deposits. We will remind you of the state Corporation “Rosatom”, where a new way of exploration of uranium deposits will find experienced the application, ranks second in the world (727,2 thousands of tons) volume of stocks of a given heavy metal: this is enough to provide customers with uninterrupted supply of raw materials for decades to come.
