U. S. Secretary Rick Perry directed his staff to develop a report including an assessment of the reliability and resilience of the electric grid and an overview of the evolution of electricity markets. The study contains a comprehensive analysis and series of recommendations from the Department of Energy staff meant to inform and guide policy makers, regulators, and the general public in future conversations about the challenges America faces. Emphasizes the need for coal and other fossil fuels as supported by the new administration and fossil fuel industry with no regard for climate.

It represents business as usual, but at least presents the data on the decline of coal production. The roles played by natural gas, nuclear power, and renewables are characterized with an emphasis on the need to modify market structures.
