Colin McDonald reports that the groundwater of the Edwards Aquifer is hypersensitive to whatever goes on above it (and around and below it). But it is also reflects subsurface Earth movements on the other side of the world. Less than 15 minutes after the earthquake in Japan, the water level at the J-17 well started to vibrate like a seismograph as the series of pressure waves radiated out from the earthquake site in Japan.
They have seen numerous earthquakes in J-17 including earthquakes in Chile, Sumatra, Haiti, Mexico, and Alaska, said Geary Schindel, chief technical officer at the EAA.
See the graph showing the Edwards water-level movements during the period. Also note that this graph was showing the conditions during the beginning of a serious drought in Texas indicated by the declining trend of the water level.... no recharge.
