Sandie Will has found a clever way to market the students and recent graduates in geoscience for her new young adult thriller novel to be published by Caliburn Press among others. She offers blog space for geoscience students and new graduates to chronicle a day in their life by expressing their glee in doing geology.
However, Will is probably doing more damage than helping recent students by re-enforcing the view prevalent in the professional field that young geologists will work for low wages because they love their work so much. She should be counseling students to project professionalism as engineering professors have always taught engineering students to remember.
In any event, perhaps she will begin to encourage her readership to focus on excellence in geoscience studies and later in professional projects in the field and in research, while still enjoying what they are doing. She should remind them to never tell your boss that you love what you are doing....or after your next yearly review your raise will be far less than other professionals, geological or engineering.
None the less, Will gives the young geoscience community voices in the Internet on their interesting activities in the fields of geoscience.
