Uranium prices have lost some ground over the course of the past month. On 8 July, uranium traded at USD 26.5 per pound, which was down 6.2% from the same day in June and was 22.6% lower on a year-to-date basis. Moreover, the price was down 27.4% from the same day last year. Prices have been under significant pressure since the nuclear disaster in Fukushima in 2011 and since then the recovery in uranium prices has been very slow, mainly because the market remains oversupplied. However, the negative sentiment that the Fukushima incident created will likely start to fade sooner rather than later. Analysts believe that the industry will soon gain steam as more nuclear reactors are built around the world.
