Resource thumbnail The Ohio State University Nuclear Engineering Program has initiated a non-thesis Masters degree option that is oriented towards students who want a career in the nuclear industry, but who do not expect research to be a major aspect of their career and do not plan to continue to obtain a PhD. For students who have completed the Ohio State University undergraduate minor in nuclear engineering, an additional year of course work would be sufficient to fulfill the non-thesis Masters degree course requirements. \n\nStudents who have not taken undergraduate nuclear engineering courses would be eligible for this option but would require more time to complete their degree. Students who wish to pursue the Non-Thesis option must meet the following requirements in order to graduate with a Masters degree ...\n\nMath 4512 (Partial Differential Equations for Science and Engineering) or equivalent\nNUCLREN 5606 (Radiation Protection and Shielding)\nNUCLREN 5742 (Nuclear Radiations and Their Measurements)\nNUCLREN 6536 (Nuclear Reactor Systems and Analysis)\nNUCLREN 6708 (Reactor Theory)\nNUCLREN 6725 (Nuclear Reactor Dynamics)\nNUCLREN 6726 (Reactor Dynamics Laboratory)\nNUCLREN 6766 (Nuclear Engineering Design)\n\nIn addition to additional non-thesis Masters degree course requirements, students will undertake a special project (NUCLREN 6193) under the direction of the student advisor, leading to the preparation of a project report. The format of the project report may be a comprehensive literature review, a research problem, a data analysis, or other topic acceptable to the Graduate Studies Committee. A final presentation is also required followed by an oral examination on the content of the project report.
