Resource thumbnail Plateau Uranium Inc., formerly Macusani Yellowcake Inc., has successfully consolidated all known uranium resources on the Macusani Plateau in Puno, Peru, solidifying a dominant position in one of the largest undeveloped uranium districts in the world. Plateau Uranium 2015 Resource Estimate shows a consolidated mineral resource estimate, based on a 75 ppm U cut-off grade, of 95.19 million tonnes grading 248 ppm U3O8, containing 51.9 M lbs U3O8 (23.549 M kg U3O8) in the indicated category, and 130.02 million tonnes grading 251 ppm U3O8, containing 72.1 M lbs U3O8 (32.708 M kg U3O8) in the inferred category. Based on a 200 ppm U cut-off grade, the resource estimate shows a robust 33.47 million tonnes grading 445 ppm U3O8, containing 32.8 M lbs U3O8 (14.893 M kg U3O8) in the indicated category, and 41.62 million tonnes grading 501 ppm U3O8, containing 45.9 M lbs U3O8 (20.869 M kg U3O8) in the inferred category. Plateau Uranium near term focus is moving the project toward the feasibility-stage and helping the government of Peru develop its uranium mining regulations and its industry. The uranium deposits are unique in the world in terms of the mineralogy, explained CEO Ted OConnor. The rocks are relatively young (6-7 Ma) and the uranium was deposited even more recently in cool high Andes conditions in a surface environment due to normal groundwater processes, so the uranium leaches extremely well. This will make uranium processing straightforward, low-cost and require less acid consumption to get the uranium into solution. The young volcanic rock is relatively soft and porous, so this is not an expensive hard rock operation. The mineralization lends itself nicely to open-pit, heap leaching methods. There is also an environmental upside to the mineralogy of the deposits. The metallurgy of the ore proves to be clean with no de1eterious elements, which means less tailings waste and a contaminant-free product, according to Ian Stalker, Director.
