In New Zealand and Australia, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) can be described as... the systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of knowledge, understanding and skills and the development of the personal qualities necessary to undertake your duties throughout the miners working life. The continuing education and professional development system (CPD) offered by the MMAA was structured for persons performing mining managerial functions requiring statutory qualifications in mines. The CPD system is also suitable, and has obvious benefits, for members holding statutory qualifications that do not take up a statutory position but instead work in industry related positions or provide professional advice and services in this area. People intending to sit for statutory examinations may also find value in the scheme. The scheme focuses on the maintenance and advancement of knowledge required to safely perform duties associated with statutory functions rather than a career path or business processes. The latter is a matter for the employer.
