Resource thumbnail Human behavior is an integral part of mine safety and health. You can minimize unsafe behavior and reduce exposure to risk by encouraging your employees to do the right thing at all times. And there is a process for doing this - 1. Educate all employees on the causes of safe and unsafe behavior. 2. Develop an observation and feedback process. 3. Emphasize how to control behavior and intervene with co-workers. The Safe Work Behavior Observation Program is a good example of how action can be taken to influence the behavior of mining employees in a positive way. By making observations on a regular basis, mining companies are able to detect and correct many of the at-risk acts, procedures or standards before they result in an accident. At the same time, they can recognize and strengthen any safe acts that are made by their employees. Also, to learn more about how you can initiate a behavior optimization process at your company, refer to Module 15 in the CORESafety Handbook.
