You may be surprised to learn what a profound misunderstanding the general public has about our industry in 2015. That is the viewpoint of Dr. Jeffrey Kohler, the Undergraduate Program Chair of Mining Engineering at Penn State University who has been involved with mine safety for more than 45 years. Many people do not understand why we need mining, Dr. Kohler explains. They think it is irrelevant, and often they think it is dirty, dangerous, or environmentally destructive. In reality, it is very different.
Dr. Kohler considers CORESafety to be an integral system for achieving safety and health goals in the mining industry, one that goes above and beyond the approaches that have traditionally been tried in the past. He sees CORESafety as the biggest game changer in my career and fully expects it to result in unprecedented levels of safety improvement throughout the industry.
CORESafety personnel recently interviewed Dr. Kohler as part of the CORESafety Dig a Little Deeper series, which is available through the CORESAfety website. And, for more information about fatality prevention and risk management, you can refer to Module 4 in the CORESafety Handbook.
