Resource thumbnail Dr. Conca reports that NBC News wants the German people to be very very afraid of wild radioactive boars roaming Saxony, announcing this week that three decades after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, wild boars containing high levels of radiation have been found roaming the German countryside some 700 miles away. The problem is that the boars do not contain high levels of radiation. They contain miniscule levels of radiation. The limits imposed by the government after Chernobyl were ridiculously low. And there is no evidence what radiation is from Chernobyl or what is from ordinary fallout from the 1950s and 60s, since boars graze on foods known to accumulate Cs-137, like wild mushrooms. Staff from the German environment ministry admit these regulations are very strict. So strict that a person would have to eat 28 lbs of contaminated meat to get the same low-level radioactive effects of being on a transatlantic flight.
