Dr. Conca reports that the Obama Administration actually wants nuclear power. It even looks like the Environmental Protection Agency new carbon rules were written in order to ensure the future of nuclear power. Last week, EPA Chief Gina McCarthy flatly stated that the primary aim in implementation of moderately increased carbon cutback requirements is to kick-start the U.S. nuclear power industry. Coming from Illinois, the largest producer of nuclear power in the United States, President Obama knows nuclear, and appreciates its reliability and low-carbon footprint. All of us in the nuclear arena were heartened by the Presidents 2009 Prague Speech in which he outlined a world with fewer nuclear weapons and more nuclear power.
