File An innovative remote-controlled assessment and removal robotic system has received a USD 1 million investment for use in underground mines in Ontario. Penguin Automated Systems Inc is getting provincial funding to develop the robotic system, which will be designed to enter tight spaces to safely manage rock hang-ups which are preventing production. The robot will be capable of non-contact measurement, information analysis, drilling and the loading of explosives for remote detonation. The system is hoped to improve safety and increase production in the mining sector worldwide.
