The Texas Mining and Reclamation Association is hosting an event for nearly 30 Texas-area teachers. Organizers say classes will focus on the uranium exploration and mining industry, particularly how uranium is used to create electricity. Training includes hands-on lessons and ways to make the classroom fun for students interested in earth-sciences. And how those are used in the real world, like real jobs in mining or in other fields that might need earth-science knowledge, said Francye Hutchins, Education Director with the Texas Mining and Reclamation Association. And to answer that age-old question...what do I need this for? Teachers will also tour a uranium mine and visit the South Texas Nuclear Project outside of Bay City.
