Report commissioned by The Co-operative, January 2011 (Final Draft) It is important to stress that one of the main findings of this work is that there is a real paucity of information on which to base an analysis of how shale gas could impact on GHG emissions and what environmental and health impacts its extraction may have. While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information in the report, it can only be as accurate as the information on which it draws. In itself, this lack of information can be seen as a finding, as along with the growing body of evidence for ground and surface water contamination from the US and the requirement for the application of the precautionary principle in the EU.
