The Alstom Corporation, amongst other transporation modes, contructs very high speed trains that use samarium-cobalt (SmCo) magnets in their motors. Samarium is one of the rare earth oxides that have been identified in lunar deposits. Control of these deposits will have an impact on the development of low-carbon footprint transportation in the coming decades.
