What started as a university research project in 2002 is now a mission to bring SMR technology to the global energy market. Nuscale made history in 2020 as the first SMR to receive NRC design approval, and are set to make history again by bringing the first SMR plant online by 2030 or before. Since Nuscale founding in 2007, Nuscale have made significant progress towards commercializing America’s first small modular reactor (SMR). This wouldn’t have been possible without the Nuscale partners, including their majority investor Fluor Corporation and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Here are some items of importance for Nuscale:

  • Merged with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp. to create the world’s first and only publicly traded provider of SMR technology.
  • Our Emergency Planning Zone boundary methodology is validated by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards.
  • With Prodigy Clean Energy Ltd. (Prodigy), we announced a new conceptual design for a transportable and marine-based small modular reactor (SMR) power generating facility.
  • Opened the fourth NuScale Energy Exploration (E2) Center in collaboration with Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID.
  • Signed a task order with KGHM to initiate deployment of the first SMR in Poland.
  • Signed an agreement with Nuclearelectrica and the site owner to conduct engineering studies, technical reviews, and licensing and permitting activities at the preferred plant site in Doicesti, Romania.
  • Announced a strategic shift to the VOYGR™ Services and Delivery organization as the company approaches commercialization.
  • Signed several business collaboration agreements, including:
    • National Technical Systems - To establish an equipment qualification test chamber
    • Paragon Energy Solutions - To enable use of the Highly Integrated Protection System (HIPS)
    • U.S. Reactor Forging Consortium - To leverage the existing U.S. forging supply chain.
  • Signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Doosan, GS Energy, Samsung, Dairyland Power Cooperative, Associated Electric Cooperative, and Fermi Energia to explore the deployment of VOYGR plants in the U.S. and around the world.
  • Formed a strategic alliance with Habboush Group to establish a single source for the financing, investment, development, execution, and management of NuScale-powered projects.
  • The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards approves a smaller Emergency Planning Zone for VOYGR plants.
  • Commemorated the company’s 15th anniversary.
