Richter reported in early 2022 that it’s only a matter of time before robots will rise up and reach for world domination [only becasue of the stupidity of many human beings]. Until that day comes, however, our metallic overlords-in-the-making have a lot of assembling and cleaning to do. Their first charts of the year provide you with an update on the global adoption of industrial and domestic robots. State-of-the-art manufacturing processes are unthinkable without industrial robots handling part of the workload, whether it’s handling, welding or assembling, which are the three most common applications of newly installed industrial robots in 2020. As their charts show, based on data from the International Robotics Federation, the operational stock of industrial robots has tripled over the past decade, with more than three million robots in use across various industries by the end of 2020.

According to the International Federation of Robotics, global unit sales of service robots for domestic tasks are set to nearly quadruple between 2018 and 2023, while dollar sales will roughly triple due to declining unit prices. The IFR expects 31 million little household helpers to be sold this year, the vast majority of which will be vacuum and floor cleaning robots, with lawn mowers also playing a minor role (more)

As the following chart, based on data from the International Robotics Federation shows, the operational stock of industrial robots has tripled over the past decade, with more than three million robots in use across various industries by the end of 2020. According to the IFR, Asia leads the way in the shift to automated processes, with China in particular installing industrial robots at breakneck speed. In 2020, China installed 168,400 industrial robots, amounting to 44 percent of global installations (more).
