Mallliliet and Spicer reported in early December, 2021 that Germany is to shut down its last nuclear reactors next year, [although claimed by many as German citizens panicking after the Fukushima incident where no one died and no one was irradiated (here), and (more)) They should re-consider, before dismantling, and shutter them if needed, which they probably will.]

However, the country still has no place to store the 27,000 cubic metres of highly radioactive material it has already produced, with the amount set to grow as power stations are decommissioned and dismantled. [Used fuel is not waste, hence storage is the solution for possible use later (more).]

German authorities have set a deadline of 2031 to find a permanent storage location – but for now, the waste is being stored in temporary locations, much to the anger of local residents.
